Koen Vanmechelen is one of the more than fifty internationally renowned artists who were invited to participate in the making of the IMAGINE HUMAN RIGHTS book projects. Artists celebrating the Universal Declaration through their works.
The idea of writing this book was born directly into the heart of our modern digital world. It deals with an issue that, from the beginnings of its existence, has lost none of its relevance. On 10 December 1948, the adoption of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS was the most comprehensive and, up to this day, remains the most important declaration of human rights. Its 70th anniversary serves as a backdrop for the book IMAGINE HUMAN RIGHTS – Artists celebrate the Universal Declaration.
Andrea Fuchs developed the idea of publishing this art book with the support of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights in Vienna, Austria, the European Interuniversity Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation in Venice, Italy, represented by professor Manfred Nowak, as well as in cooperation with curator Petra Stelzer.
IMAGINE HUMAN RIGHTS – Artists celebrate the Universal Declaration will be presented around December 10, 2018 in Beirut, Lebanon during the international conference "Prospects and Challenges for Human Rights and Democracy in different World Regions". The book will present the thirty articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the six official languages of the United Nations in order to be able to reach people worldwide, and by juxtaposing human rights and art, aims to inspire a debate beyond the written word.
